Tips from the Pro!

In 1993, The Ben Hogan Company was celebrating the 40th anniversary of Ben Hogan winning the US Open Championship.  I believe it was played at Medinah Country Club.  The Hogan Company, as a promotion, sent prints to all staff members of Ben Hogan hitting the perfect 1 iron from the fairway to the Par 5, 18th green.  Of course, Ben Hogan made a perfect swing with that 1 iron and finished in pefect balance.  You can see the flight of the ball in the print as it rose into the air and disected the middle of the green.  Ben Hogan went on to birdie the eighteenth hole and win the US Open.

But, that was Ben Hogan in 1952, having a terrefic year, with a near perfect, flawless gold swing.  The question for you is this, can you hit a 1 iron from any kind of lie, from 190 to 210 yards, under pressure, and knock it onto the green?  If the answer is no, then do I have a suggestion for you!  You get the ball airborn.  The new utility clubs that are designed for that purpose should be in your bag.  Or, just go to you local Proshop and purchase a 5, 7, and 9 wood.  These clubs will replace your 1 through 5 irons in your bag and will again, help you get the ball into the air.  As a result, you will gain confidence from 170 to 200 yards.

So, if your swing is not Ben Hogan perfect, as in striking the ball dead solid perfect and finishing in a well balanced position, then use the clubs that will help you achieve the same purpose and give you confidence.
